Operating the first MRI wave device in Egypt at the National Liver Institute

Dr. Mohamed Fawzi Al-Souda, President of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, announced the operation of the (HIFU) magnetic resonance device for the first time in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa, at the National Institute of Liver and Endemic Diseases in Cairo.

He added in a statement today, that HIFU treatment is a non-invasive procedure for treating a range of benign and malignant diseases and tumors, and depends on the focus of sound waves at a specific point inside the body, at which the temperature rises, and the tissue to be treated is destroyed and cauterized without the need for any intervention at all. This development in providing non-interventional services comes within the framework of the directives of the President and the Minister of Health to improve and modernize the medical services provided to the Egyptian patient.

Dr. Basem Issa, Dean of the Liver Institute, said that the first case of focused ultrasound therapy directed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRIgHIFU) was performed today for a 24-year-old woman suffering from a large uterine fibroid.

Dr. Mohamed Fawzy, consultant radiologist students, head of the surgical team, added that one of the advantages of this method of treatment is that the patient can leave the hospital after performing this intervention and get rid of tumors, and return to his normal life within a day of the operation. Excellent medical staff from the institute.
